The Doulos
Hey everyone! This is a picture of the Doulos Ship. It is a traveling book store! And it goes to many different countries around the world to bring all types of books to mostly poor areas. It was here in Salalah this past week. We had many plans to go aboard the ship and look through the book store and possibly tour the ship. But Katheryn has had a fever the past few days and we have had to stay home. But we have had the opportunity to meet a few of the ships crew. It was a REALLY BIG deal that the Doulos was here in Salalah. You see, the ship is owned by a Christian company. Aboard the ship there are 350 missionaries that work and keep the ship running. They work in the engine room, painting and fixing things, in the kitchen, and of course in the book store. They don't really evangalize everywhere they go, except by example and personal testimony (and it also depends on the country they are in). A few of the Doulos team members came to our church and led the service on Friday (our "Sunday"). We were able to have a couple of girls come as our guests to the Plaza and relax on the beach. There are over 40 nations represented on this ship. We met Christians from Germany, Africa, Norway, Scotland, Hungary, and AMERICA! You have to be at least 18 to work on the ship. You can work anywhere from two months to two years. And you could exptend past that too. There are families that are aboard the ship as well.
These are the two girls from the Doulos that visited with us in our home.On the right with Claire is Katharina from Germany.
On the left with Katheryn is Marti from Hungary.
We both enjoyed getting to know these girls in the short time with them and hope to keep in touch with them on their journeys.
The ship itself is the oldest operating vessel. It was built in 1914! Two years older than the Titanic.

Wow! What a cool story... it's amazing to see how God works in all parts of the world! How neat that you all got to have some of the girls to your home and visit with them.
